Mr Adams has today lodged with the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division)
Grounds of Appeal against the sentence of seven years imprisonment
imposed by His Honour Judge Pontius at the Old Bailey on 9th March 2007.
The two Grounds of Appeal are as follows:
1. The sentence was manifestly excessive when considered against the
basis of plea; and
2. Insufficient credit was given for Mr Adam’s plea.
His solicitor, Richard Mallett comments:
"It will be submitted to the Court that following his plea of guilty on a very limited basis to the one historical offence of laundering £1million of his own money; money which the Crown accepted that although generated from
crime was not generated from the proceeds of drugs and further accepted
that the criminality occurred a full 13-14 years ago and in addition accepted that since that time no fresh offence has been committed, bearing all these factors into account it will be argued that Mr Adams should not have received
a sentence of this severity."
